Equipping women with skills to prosper

What We Do

We empower women to prosper by equipping them with vocational skills and providing comprehensive support on their journey to economic independence.

Many girls from Asembo, Kenya are unable to complete their education due to the high cost of school and then face societal barriers to joining local trade work. We provide a path to employment and life-changing income to women who were never given an opportunity to be self-reliant.

Each year, twenty determined young women enroll in our Skills Academy. Over the course of a year, we teach them everything they need to know to become successful seamstresses and entrepreneurs. After they graduate, we provide ongoing mentorship and access to microloans to ensure their businesses flourish. All throughout, we support their overall wellbeing with counseling services and group activities designed to promote social support.

We hope to break the generational cycle of poverty in Asembo by investing in women.

Our mission is to break the generational cycle of poverty in Asembo by equipping women with skills to prosper.

Our Programs

Skills Academy

Our rigorous year-long course was specifically designed to meet the needs of women in Asembo. Monday to Friday we train participants on vocational skills, entrepreneurship skills, and life skills. In contrast with technical colleges in the region, our program is taught in the local language, walking distance from their homes, free of charge, accommodating of mothers with young children, and comprised of hands-on practical lessons that require no formal education.

Graduate Success

We are committed to accompanying women all the way on their journey to success. Graduation from our Skills Academy does not mark the end of our support, but just the beginning. We routinely check in with our graduates to provide personalized business and life coaching and monitor their progress. We facilitate savings groups and offer microloans so that graduates can use these basic financial tools to get the equipment and materials they need to operate profitable businesses.

Wellbeing Support

We recognize that the path to empowerment includes more than just economic obstacles. To help our participants navigate social and emotional challenges, we offer on-site counseling and opportunities for participants to share their personal struggles and support each other. We also organize activities to build self-confidence, provide education on positive communication, and arrange easy access to family planning.

Our Approach

Locally Led

Our founders and staff were born and raised in Asembo. To us this small town in rural Kenya is more than just where we work, this is our home. We know the community well, we have their trust, and we have a deep understanding of how best to operate here. This program is personal to us, so we work tirelessly to make it as effective as possible.

Data Driven

From day one we’ve focused on achieving tangible results and having the numbers to back it up. Our programs are designed with a logical impact framework in mind. We conduct surveys, skills assessments, and home visits to track progress over time. Most importantly, we regularly evaluate the results and adapt accordingly.

Impact Over Scale

To truly transform lives and break the cycle of generational poverty, we individualize support to every woman in our program. We are focused on deeply impacting a few families, rather than providing shallow support to many. Women in Asembo face many challenges, so in order to create lasting change we’re committed to providing all encompassing support.
